Oh how busy the days have been

Okay, so I haven't posted in awhile. This has nothing to do with lack of interesting things happening (which was usually my excuse over the summer). Mostly, I've had zero time to do anything aside from RA training, eating and sleeping (let's just say that if you've never had to create a door dec, lucky you). Not that this upsets me, it's been so amazing to get to know all of the people I will be working with this year (and possibly a couple years following). Basically, starting Sunday, August 21st at 5pm, I was thrown head deep into training, community building, RA camp (seriously awesome!), role playing, and sessions dealing with everything from how to deal with conflict to bloodbourne pathogen training (we love you Owen...thud...). And the inside jokes start rolling in...good times, good times.

So, starting at the beginning, I was quite apprehensive going into this. I was faced with a lot of stories about how well everyone got along last year and how close all the staff members were, and I was honestly intimidated. We had a couple meetings on Monday and Tuesday, and then it was off to camp. There are 31 people on staff (27 RAs, 2 ICs [involvement coordinators, too hard to explain] and 2 Senior RAs) and of that, only 8 of them are women. We stayed at a YMCA camp, in a cabin that had a "boy" and a "girl" side. Well, we had to have 4 of the guys sleep in our room cause there wasn't enough space. These are the joys of going to a school with 25% women (that's up from the 18% last year just with the huge freshman nursing class).

Camp was so amazing! We did low ropes/community building, staff expectations, archery (yeah, they gave me a bow and arrows, crazy), boating, the blob (opted out of that one this year...maybe next year), campfires (yummy s'mores), wall climbing, high ropes courses (oh, I really don't like heights) and really did a lot of getting to know each other. I have to say I wan't at all uncomfortable with any of the guys. An all around great group. We spent Tuesday night, Wednesday night, and got back to campus on Thursday afternoon. We got the weekend off, and I didn't do much of anything (except for door decs...yeah, they were a pain, but turned out very well). I got to take 2 of my girl friends to church with me on Sunday. It was a great service, as always.

Week 2 of training started out and will continue to be eventful. We actually only had Monday and Tuesday training. Today started the move in madness. Well, not so much madness yet. Returning students moved in today and that's a lot more low key. Tomorrow and Friday brings the freshman/new students. That's the fun part. Plus, our campus decided to have a "fun" parking year. That is, we are down 3 lots because of construction and the lot we're using for during the school year won't be available until the first day of school. Yep, loads o' fun.

In short (hehe, not really) I've had a really great couple of weeks. I get to spend the weekend with my floor, hopefully getting to know the girls really well. Then, classes start on Tuesday. I miss my kids so much, it's crazy. I don't get to see them again until Wednesday and Thursday of next week. What joyous days they will be!

Anywho...I just finished watching a movie, am in the process of doing laundry, and I helped move things for people (well, I more just supervised the last one). I think another movie will be in order while I wait for my laundry to dry. More fun to come in the next couple of days...

Didn't do much today besides a shift at work. Again, I am going to miss my kids these next couple weeks. I have so much to do and so little time to do it...or maybe it's just that I seem to be good at waiting to do things at the very last moment possible. Meh, who knows? Anywho, I'm off to bed. First staff meeting and the beginning of RA training starts tomorrow.

FYI

So, I made the decision to post any quotes from the current book I'm reading (and books I read in the future), along with scripture verses that inspire me and such, on my other sight: Katelyn82. Plus, there are other fun things you can do on Xanga that I want to try that you can'd do on Blogspot. Anywho, just thought I'd let anyone know who might be interested...yep, going to bed now...

And the days keep flying by!

I remember when I was younger being so excited about my birthday, and then sad when it was over cause I knew the summer was coming to an end. Honestly, besides the fact that I'll miss my kids since I won't be working as much, I'm quite thrilled to have a change of scene. Being an RA, classes, IV stuff, working...it's gonna be a busy year. But, I start clinicals this year and, before I know it, it'll be the end of my sophomore year! This will definitely be a day of celebration. See, for those of you who don't know this, I have gone to 3 different schools over the past 5 years since graduation (UW-Stevens Point, Mid-State Technical College, and MSOE). I have never gone to college for 2 years in a row. It's crazy for me to think about it. I'm actually beginning to feel like a college student. YAY!

Well, it's been a long day, I should head off to sleep soon.

Countdowns:
RA training in 4 days!
Sophomore Year starts in 20 days!

The time has come...and gone...

Well, my birthday came and went. It was a wonderful (and very delicious) dinner. Yummy cheesecake. The concert was awesome. Switchfoot delivers yet another amazing performance. However, the seats were HORRIBLE! I was a bit disappointed with the way they set up the stage and the seating (and with the fact that the free seats ended up being the best seats in the house) Oh well, it was still a great concert and a really fun evening. Thanks to everyone who was a part of making it so enjoyable. I really am blessed with some fabulous friends. I love you all! And to those who couldn't make it, you missed out! The picture above is me (yes, I know I'm white, no reminders necessary) and my friend Chris. I was also surrounded by couples (i.e. Brandon and Sarah Joy, Adam and Donna)
......and then there's Megan....

RA training starts in 1 week and school in a little over 3 weeks. Summer has been a blast, but I can't wait to see everyone again and get back into the grind of MSOE. (hopefully, I feel the same way in 3 weeks)

Congrats to Cheryl Crawford and family for the addition of a bouncing baby girl, Meghan Lauren (the popular vote was Cindy for a girl). I was hoping she'd wait and share my birthday, but she come on the 11th, which is close enough, I suppose...

Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all of you out there who were born in the month of August, cause you're cooler than everyone else!

Another year older

Well, I'm 23 years old today...Just thought I'd document this momentous occasion. Doesn't feel much different (is it supposed to?)
Although, I am very excited for my birthday plans! Cheesecake, friends, and Switchfoot...what else is there?
